10 Daily Habits That Keep My Head Right

If you’re like me, having a successful morning is very important. A successful morning leads to a productive day which leads to a restful night sleep. I’ve learned that daily habits are what keep my routine in good working order and what helps keep my head right. Daily habits get my day started on the right foot, get me in a positive mindset, and set the tone for the rest of the day.

Here are 10 daily habits that keep my head on straight and set up my day for success:

1.  Lemon Water Wake Up

When I wake up, I feel dehydrated. Lemon water is the perfect way to help me wake up, to begin nourishing my body, and is the perfect way to start the day.

Lemon water is what I wake up thinking about, and it’s the first thing I do when I get out of bed.

2.  Skincare and Quip

Quip is a magical, electric toothbrush that was targeted to me in an Instagram ad, and it’s awesome. It actually makes me excited to brush my teeth! #WhoKnew

Next, I start my skincare regimen. I believe in taking care of your skin, and I do it twice a day. I can’t even imagine skipping this part of my day. Seriously, it’s that important.

3.  Make The Bed

I know this sounds like a chore you would give a child, but I feel incomplete when I haven’t made my bed. Also, I work and live in a one-bedroom apartment, which means that I see my bedroom multiple times throughout the day.

Knowing that my bed is made makes my day go more smoothly; and, I love getting into a clean bed at night.

4.  Stay Quiet

I try to get up before everyone else, including Lucy. I like to have a few minutes to be in the quiet so I can do a few things in complete silence.

I am very protective over what I listen to, and I love being able to control the sounds in my space. I take this time to set the intentions for the day and to really think about what is coming up in the next few hours.

5.  Avoid the Phone

I activate the “do not disturb” function on my phone in the morning. I don’t want to hear notifications – I already heard my alarm; I don’t need to hear my phone.

Why do I do this?

The first few hours of my day are precious. No one needs to talk to me that early, and morning appointments rarely happen unless it’s a major priority.

You can give a few key people the ability to break through your “do not disturb” time, and, for me, I keep those people limited.

6.  Clean Out An Area Of The House

I spend a few minutes of the day cleaning an area of the house. I don’t like to get to the point where things are a total mess or that the whole place smells like dog. Ew.

The best way to make sure we don’t go there is to clean an area of the house each day. It doesn’t have to take too long, but it does make a big difference to helping me stay sane more productive.

7.  Write

Writing has become more important to me over the last few years, and while it’s not a perfect habit, it’s something I really value.

Writing can look like a lot of different things: my to-do list, a blog post, my thoughts. I spend time writing because it feels like there is a lot of information building up in my head, and writing helps me to offload those thoughts and ideas.

Practicing my writing is also going to be helpful if I decide to write another book. I really had to find my groove to write Vlog Like a Boss, and I’d love to make my next book-writing plan go more smoothly.

Want to read my writing? I write on LinkedIn and Medium.

8.  Work Out

I have to work out early in the day otherwise I am not as productive, and, I’ve noticed that if I work out later in the day, I can’t sleep at night. NOT GOOD.

I try to exercise about 6 times a week, even when I am traveling. It just doesn’t feel right if I don’t. Plus, I have a gym in my building, so there’s really no excuse.

9.  Pet & Cuddle Lucy

Even though Lucy and I spend a lot of our days in the same apartment, we are very independent. But, we need each other

Lucy is a reminder to me that I’ve come a long way, and she keeps me mindful. She has been with me my entire adult life, and I love taking the time to stop what I’m doing to be with her.

My time with her really calms and settles me, which sometimes, is exactly what I need.

10.  Get the big thing done first

You may have heard the phrase “eat the frog,” and that’s what I do as early in the day as early in the day as I can.

I get the big assignments done early, especially if it’s for Vlog Boss University or a speaking engagement or a proposal. It’s so much easier for me to do those big projects early in the day before my attention gets pulled in a million different directions.

Those are the 10 daily habits I do every day to keep my mind right. Do you have daily habits? Get your head right so you can go after the life you want.

What is something that, if you don’t do it every day, you feel off?
