Why No One Knows You (YET!) + 3 Ways To Change That

On Episode 3 of Boss Status sponsored by Aweber, I am going to answer your burning question about how to get bring viewers to YouTube, get subscribers/likes/retweets, or anything else you want to do even when it feels like no one knows your yet or it feels like you don’t have an existing network.

There are 3 reasons why you are not known YET.  Let’s look at these reasons individually so we can get past making excuses.

1.  You ask, but don’t give.

Giving goes beyond just showing up or offering exposure someone exposure on your blog.

You have to figure out where they are in their process and give them something that is going to be relevant and useful. When it comes to creating video, you can give tutorials and tips, but you have to do more than that. You haven’t earned a transaction just because you made and uploaded a video. You have to keep giving before someone will even think about spending more time (or money!) with you.

Get into the habit of giving without expecting anything in return. This needs to be your mindset (know where they are + meet them there), and when you treat them like an individual, you’re going to go so much further than trying to offer them something they don’t know they want or need.

To truly give, you have to get really specific with your perfect viewer, like I talk about in Vlog Like a Boss.  What is their name? What is their life like? Every time you make a piece of content, they should think, OMG! She made this for me. Rather than asking before you give, give to your heart’s content and then give some more before you even think about asking.

2.  You expect tools to deliver what only humans can.

Just because someone built a tool doesn’t mean that there is a built-in audience for you. Just because it’s the “place to be” (hey, Instagram!) doesn’t mean that you get to have an audience there because you uploaded a pretty profile picture and a few posts.

You have to do more work than that. You can’t expect 3rd party apps to do the work for you. You have to do it. You have to make the connection and put in the effort.

If you don’t have a network yet, go find your audience. They are out there. You can use the search functionality of your social media platform of choice to find your audience. You can even search for a specific word or a geographic area. Find the niched hashtags. Put in the work to join other conversations and people will want to follow you. Seriously, that’s it.

You need to join other conversations before you start your own. You have to build the relationships to build your network.

Just because the tools exist, doesn’t mean they are going to gift you with attention. Eyeballs have to be earned.

3.  There isn’t a strategic plan to reach out to the right people

There was a time (not too long ago) when you couldn’t communicate with some of the most amazing people and influencers. They were too far away. Social media is the bridge between you and those people.

What if you could build a relationship with someone who seems unavailable, but could make a huge difference in your career?

You have to have a more strategic plan than “I need to know Oprah. She is going to give me a spotlight, and then I’ll be famous.” If your goal is to triple your annual revenue, who is going to help you achieve that goal? How can you build a relationship over the long-term that all about THEM and will eventually move the needle for me eventually?

You can start now, you don’t have to be impatient about it.

Make a list of those people and research them. (BOSS HINT: Most of these people are not Oprah status! They are more accessible than you might think.) What gets them excited? What can you do for them based on what you learned?

I get a lot of emails from YOU, and I try to reply to every email I get. I love when people reach out and tell me that something I did that really helped them. When was the last time you reached out to someone who has helped you and told them about it? When was the last time you simply said thank you?

Those are the 3 reasons why no one knows who you are YET. I know that by taking these steps to change that today. You get one life, so you have to go after the life that you want.
