Headlines. So important in content marketing. And yet, so many people don’t spend any longer than a couple miliseconds on deciding what to write in the field. Silly mistake. Tune in for Sexy Wednesday to upgrade your your titles so not only is it sharable, but worth clicking on in the first place.
Awhile back — early on in Savvy Sexy Social’s time when I actually wrote article as well as made videos — I wrote a post about why your headlines are terrible and how you can make them better. More specifically how you can “unsuck” them.
I want to continue that cause today and touch on one of the items I mentioned which is when creators have packed a piece of content with so much information that they feel the need to mention each of those things in the headline. A + B+ C + D = PLEASE CLICK!!
I admire your passion for providing a great deal of content and I’m sure your audience would be pleased if they clicked to see what’s in store, but the problem is they won’t. They won’t because they are completely and utterly distracted by the Internet and all its shiny objects and therefore your incomplete sentence of multiple items is going to be bypassed and ignored.
Another way of doing this is something I see frequently on YouTube which is to add the name of the segment to the headline. Like if I added ‘Sexy Wednesday’ to the headline to remind you of the theme of the video and why its happening in the first place. The thing is, that’s totally unnecessary. You can put that information ANYWHERE else. Including in the content. Around the content. At the beginning of the content. Maybe even at the end. But in the headline, you’re taking up SO much space and characters that it’s keeping people from seeing the true value that you’re providing. Again. PEOPLE ARE A.D.D.!
Give someone a great reason to click and read more. There needs to be a significant call-to-action.
