Anyway, today she wants you to think about how sexy free content can be for your brand and how you can increase prospects by sharing it in the right way. Free content is what my business is built on so if you think it sounds backwards, you’ve got another thing coming.
1) It is a vehicle to quickly establish trust with your potential customer
When you’re not giving someone a barrier to entry of a pricetag to get something that is valuable to them and something they want to know, you’re establishing a great deal of trust in that exchange.
2) It gives you a way to demonstrate your expertise
Anyone can say they’re good at what they do, but free content gives you the opportunity to prove it without waiting on your first client to pay you to make that happen. Giving it away is often the fastest way to get on the radar of someone looking for help that they want to pay for.
3) It invoke the Law of Reciprocity
When you give someone something, they much more likely to feel like they want to give something back to you, especially if you’ve provided them a result. So this is going to give you opportunities later to let your audience know what they can do to help you now that you’ve provided them with a lot of value.
When it comes to creating free content that helps you retain contact information for those people, you have a few options.
- You can make something similar to my Ultimate Twitter Guide, which is a downloadable ebook that you can have just by opting into my email list
- You can create a free video training, e-course, or audio lessons
- Anything that would really make your shine at what you do
It may sound like a lot of work but even though this is something you’ll be giving away for free, it has to be amazing. Something people would have been willing to buy.
Action: Look at your target audience and think about a problem that they have that you can solve for them. Something they’ve dieing to get help with and would pay money for. Now build amazing free content around that content and make sure it contains the solution. Brand and package and then offer it for free in return for contact information on your email marketing list.
