Encouraging more retweets of your Twitter content is a great way to increase engagement with friends of your brand. But it’s not so simple as just asking for it for no reason. Just like with everything else, there needs to be some incentive for your audience to follow your calls-to-action.
So for Social Thursday we’re talking about a little strategy called Flock to Unlock.
Flock to Unlock is a plan to get more retweets by offering content in return. By posing the challenge “If we can get 100 retweets of this tweet, we will share a 30% off code for you to use on our website for your next purchase” you’re more likely to see that activity happen because you’re offering a reward for their social activity.
This is better than just asking to “Please retweet” for every other tweet you do because that’s just plain annoying and people aren’t in to someone telling them to retweet something unless there’s a darn good reason for it.
Like getting something for free or a discount. Sound familiar?
We have the same strategy when we create an email opt in form on our website to offer something in return for contact information. It helps tip people over the edge of the decision making process of whether or not they want to share their information. So Flock to Unlock does something similar by making an offer for a little retweet.
This doesn’t have to be just discount codes. You can offer exclusive content as well. Especially if you’re not a product-based business. Maybe you’re going to record special personalized Instagram videos for the first 20 retweets? These are the kinds of fun, engaging thing people want to see from brands. A great way to get attention and get your audience activated.
