Hashtags Have Arrived on Facebook [VIDEO]

Shocker! Facebook is adding functionality to be more like other social network. Hashtags have been very popular in places like Twitter and Instagram and it’s definitely been something in demand on Facebook but only because people are used to it, not because it necessarily belongs.

Anyway, they’re here and now you can prepare when they roll out to your account. Learn more in today’s video.

Watch Hashtags Have Arrived on Facebook:

This is a really interesting development for Facebook because it is a network that is difficult to be discovered via organiz growth vs. investing in ads to get more exposure. So looking at your hashtag strategy on other networks and thinking about how some of that might convert to Facebook is important.

At the same time, this might not be as simple as we’re hoping it will be and there might be another big chance for Facebook to monetize here. So be prepared for this to not be the complete answer to your prayer in marketing on Facebook.

What do you think about hashtags on Facebook? Are you a fan? Or not?

#hashtag!! Finally Facebook, really? I'm definitely excited about this. On Facebook it seems pretty seamless in my .5 seconds of testing, in terms of typing hashtag-something.

Google Plus's integration of hashtags is still a little clunky in my opinion. Having to press "enter" and doing so too fast on G+ feels a little wrong to me, do you agree?

I'm wondering if hashtags will convert to clickable hashtags from Twitter-to-Facebook posts. Have you tried that yet?

And yes, thanks for the news!! You are definitely where I hear these things first.

There is still so much more to learn about this. Don't worry! I'll be paying attention so I can let you know!

I have sooooo many questions but here are a few I hope you talk about in a future video. Will my private posts or comments within my posts, which contain hashtags be public? Will Facebook include Instagram photos in the search that are hashtagged? How will Facebook prevent SPAM tags from showing up in my search?

I'm sitting over here like, "Ta-ta-taday Jr." This roll out process is super slow.

@hellobrio I don't think Google Plus hashtags are clunky at all. They actually read your post and add additional hashtags as well to help people discover your stuff. I don't usually have to hit the enter button when I type a hashtag. I just type and move on. Maybe look at that again because it's definitely worth doing.

I really doubt you'll ever click a hashtag on Facebook and see Twitter results, or vice versa. They really don't like each other that much to work together like that. Is that what you mean?

Facebook hashtags are big news! Definitely seeing more activity on my posts with hashtags so hopefully helping brands get in front of a bigger audience more organically!

@schmittastic oh that's weird... I always thought you had to press enter for Google Plus, but yeah you're right! (You CAN press enter which makes it draw a box around the hashtag... but yeah, it's not required, apparently!) I do use G+ hashtags all the time, so not having to press enter will make it a lot faster.

For Twitter-to-Facebook, I meant that if you post something on Twitter that posts to Facebook, I wondered if the post would automatically "pick up" the hashtags. And I answered my own question- it does! (I don't expect hashtags to be clickable across social media channels)
