The Power of a Mention

So something pretty cool happened to Savvy Sexy Social yesterday and I wanted to share it with you here.

Not because I’m a brag (well, actually, I kinda am) but because I want you as my readers to know how powerful social media can be.

Yesterday, Alexia Tsotsis wrote an article on a nationally known tech blog called Techcrunch about the craziness that has been going on with Klout and all their drama with a new algorithm and changing influence scores.

Somehow she came across one my of Schmittastic Social Media Tips episodes that I do for the Tweetfind blog about my Top 10 Ways To Increase Your Klout Score. She decided to add the video and a little information about me to her article.

Why this is amazing:

  1. The title of the article was called “Nobody Gives A Damn About Your Klout Score“. A very eye-catching title that most would stop to read if they cared about their Klout.
  2. The Klout issue was so fresh, not even 24 hours old, when this article was posted. It was very likely to draw a lot of attention from readers.
  3. In addition to those two facts, it certainly helps that the post was written on Techcrunch. An already recently controversial blog in the social world getting it’s own fair amount of attention.

So you can imagine what happened from all this, right?

Traffic.

And lots of it.

Yesterday set the record for traffic to Savvy Sexy Social. According to Google Analytics we saw 4 times the amount of pageviews to the site’s last top performing day. There’s been a great increase in e-mail and RSS subscribers. And of course, more Twitter followers for both Schmittastic and Savvy Sexy Social.

It was also really cool to get emails and tweets from friends who hadn’t heard it from me, but are just regular readers of Techcrunch and came across my name. That’s a really special feeling, and the credit weird but really nice.

I’ve also never had an article with my content in it  retweeted as many times as this post was. If you look on the article page, you will see on the left-hand side that it’s up to almost 2,000 tweets in about 24 hours. Wowzer.

So how can you make this happen for your blog?

Share greatness. Blog what you know and share it with the world. The only thing I do on here and on Tweetfind is share social media tips. I don’t expect stuff like this to happen but I share what I know anyway so that I can at least help someone.

By acting and getting your knowledge and helpfulness into the world, you are more likely to make cool stuff like this happen for you, too.

So what have you shared with the world today?
